Clive Anderson, a 67-year-old TV host, recently talked about a famous interview he did with the Bee Gees back in 1997. The Bee Gees were a band made up of three brothers: Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. During the interview on his show called All Talk on BBC One, Clive made some jokes about the band. At first, the brothers laughed, but then they got upset and left the show.
Clive told Express.co.uk that the interview started off great but quickly turned bad. He said it went “from the best to the worst in a few minutes.” Looking back, he thinks he made a mistake with how he talked to them.
During the interview, Clive made fun of Barry’s high singing voice, saying it sounded like Mickey Mouse. He also joked that the band’s name was missing a letter to spell “hit” right. Then he said he thought the brothers were sisters, not brothers. The Bee Gees laughed at first, but things changed when Clive made a joke about one of their songs, Don’t Forget To Remember. He said, “I forgot about that one,” and laughed.
That was the last straw for Barry. He stood up, called Clive a rude name, and walked off. His brothers followed him, leaving Clive alone on the show. Clive had to quickly end the program, which felt very awkward.
Looking back, Clive said he didn’t get the tone right with the Bee Gees. He could tell because they didn’t stay long. He also shared that he’s interviewed lots of musicians over the years, and they’re usually fun to talk to. Many of them have exciting stories about going from having little money to being super rich, then sometimes facing big problems before bouncing back.
Clive’s story shows how a few jokes can turn a fun chat into a big mess!
