Barry Gibb’s Emotional “To Love Somebody” Performance on This Morning Reflects Grief Over Brother’s Loss in 2013

Barry Gibb is a famous singer and songwriter who many people think is one of the best from his time. In 2013, he gave a special private concert on TV for a small group of viewers. This happened on a show called This Morning on ITV, a British channel. Barry was the last living member of the Bee Gees, a band he started with his brothers Robin and Maurice in 1958. He went on the show to talk about his first tour without them and then sang a beautiful version of “To Love Somebody” with just his guitar.

This moment was extra special because it came just months after his brother Robin died in 2012 from kidney problems caused by cancer. Barry sat on the show’s famous sofa, across from the two hosts, and sang the song that everyone knows and loves. He was getting ready for his Mythology Tour in the UK, a trip where he would perform without his brothers for the first time.

The Mythology Tour was a way for Barry to honor Robin and Maurice. It started in Sydney, Australia, in October 2012. Barry performed with his son Stephen and Maurice’s daughter Samantha, who often sang duets with him on stage. Barry shared that being on stage without his brothers was hard. He told a newspaper called The Sun in 2013, “One minute you feel they’re right with you, the next you know you’ve got to do it alone.” He also said the fans were amazing and cheered him on, which helped him and them feel better about losing his brothers.

Barry got the idea to keep making music from his wife, Linda, who he’d been married to for 54 years. She told him, “Stop being sad and go make music!” Linda was the big reason he started the tour. Barry explained on the show, “She told me to get up and stop thinking everything was over for me. She said I have music, so I should create it. I jumped right in because she was pushing me to do it.” That encouragement led to a touching performance that showed how much Barry still loved sharing his songs with the world.
