Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs attempts to block doctor from testifying in trial

Diddy

Sean “Diddy” Combs is gearing up for a legal showdown, facing heavy charges like racketeering, sex trafficking by force, and transportation for prostitution. Now, his team’s making a bold move to kick a key government witness—Dr. Dawn Hughes, a forensic clinical psychologist—out of his upcoming trial. Here’s the latest on this high-stakes battle.

The Clash Over Dr. Hughes

Diddy’s lawyers dropped a 25-page filing to shut down Hughes, who’s set to testify about “coercive control”—tactics abusers use to dominate victims. They’re not having it, claiming she’s stepping into the trial blind. “Hughes has no knowledge of the actual facts in this case,” wrote attorney Alexandra Shapiro. She says Hughes hasn’t even interviewed the alleged victims or done proper psychological evaluations, calling her opinions “unadorned” and shaky.

Shapiro argues the government’s banking on Hughes as a “magic wand” to patch up weak spots in their case. “They’ll say, ‘As Dr. Hughes told you,’ over and over,” she warns, predicting it’ll sway the jury unfairly. “This isn’t how expert testimony should work—it won’t help the jury find the truth.”

Same Script, Different Case?

Hughes isn’t new to the spotlight—she’s testified in big trials like Harvey Weinstein’s, Danny Masterson’s, and Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard. Diddy’s team says she’s recycling the same playbook, twisting everyday actions into “coercion.” Shapiro points out: if Diddy supported his girlfriends financially or apologized with gifts after fights, Hughes might call it control—even if it doesn’t legally fit the bill. They’re painting her as a hired gun with a one-size-fits-all approach.

Where Things Stand

Diddy’s locked up at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, with his trial kicking off May 5. He’s pleading not guilty to all charges, and his team’s fighting hard to keep Hughes off the stand. Will it work? The courtroom’s about to heat up.
