Deacon Frey Honors Late Father Glenn with Emotional Eagles Performance at Wembley Stadium

Eagles Soar at Wembley as Deacon Frey Honors Late Father Glenn in Emotional Tribute Performance

On Sunday, June 23, Wembley Stadium was once again filled with the unmistakable harmonies and timeless hits of The Eagles, but this time, the night carried a profound emotional weight.

Opening the UK leg of their world tour, the band made a powerful return to the legendary venue — a move few thought would happen after the passing of founding member Glenn Frey in 2016. In the years since, Eagles co-founder Don Henley had hinted the band might never tour again. But the spirit of the music endured — and so did the family legacy.

Taking the stage alongside Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit was 25-year-old Deacon Frey, Glenn’s son, now carrying the torch with quiet strength and undeniable presence.

“The reason we can do this,” Henley told the crowd, “is because we have Glenn’s son Deacon up here with us. A young man in big shoes — and he’s stepped up like a champ. I know his father would be proud — is proud.”

The stadium of nearly 90,000 fans roared with emotion as Deacon stepped forward to introduce one of his father’s most beloved numbers, “Peaceful Easy Feeling.”

“This is so cool,” Deacon said, glancing out at the sea of lights. “This place is so big. I’m having a blast — such a treat. This is the joy of my life so far.”

What followed was more than just a performance — it was a passing of the torch, steeped in reverence, love, and musical heritage. Deacon’s vocals echoed with the smooth, laid-back soul of his father, but carried their own youthful warmth. As he sang, video screens above showed touching images of Glenn Frey throughout his life — from his early days in the band to tender family moments.

For many in the crowd, tears mixed with applause. The Eagles — once again a family band in the truest sense — delivered two and a half hours of musical gold, with each note honoring the man who helped define their sound, and the son now helping carry it forward.

Wembley may have hosted countless legends, but on this night, it became sacred ground for a son’s tribute to a father — and for a band that refuses to let time, or loss, silence the music.

The Eagles are still flying. And Glenn Frey’s voice — through Deacon — still echoes through the sky. 🕊️🎸
