On November 13, 2022, something amazing happened at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. During the sixth annual VetsAid charity concert, a six-year-old boy named Roy Orbison III stepped onto the stage with rock legends Joe Walsh and Dave Grohl. Roy, the grandson of the famous singer Roy Orbison, played guitar on the song “Rocky Mountain Way” and stole the show!
VetsAid is a special concert started by Joe Walsh in 2017 to raise money to help veterans and their families. That night, big stars performed, but the highlight was young Roy joining in. He played guitar alongside Joe Walsh, who sang and played guitar, and Dave Grohl, who rocked the drums. Other musicians, like Nathan East on bass and The Breeders singing backup, made the song sound awesome. Roy played with so much confidence, you’d never guess he was only six!
Roy calls Joe Walsh his godfather, and they’ve played music together before. When Roy was just three, a video showed him jamming with Joe on “Rocky Mountain Way” at home. Now, he’s showing the world that music is in his family’s blood.
You can watch Roy’s incredible performance on YouTube by searching “Roy Orbison III Rocky Mountain Way VetsAid 2022.” The video became super popular, with tons of people watching and leaving comments about how cool it was to see a young kid rock out with music legends. Fans loved how Joe and Dave helped Roy shine, like passing a musical torch to the next generation.
