On June 20, 2024, Bruce Springsteen, a famous rock star, played an amazing three-hour concert at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona. The stadium was packed with 58,000 excited fans who love his music. At 74 years old, Bruce still knows how to put on a great show!
He started the night with a song called Lonesome Day, and all the fans sang along with him, knowing every word. Bruce even spoke a little Catalan, asking the crowd “com esteu?” which means “how are you?” three times. The fans cheered loudly! He also showed off a t-shirt that said “Us estimem,” meaning “we love you,” and lots of people in the crowd were wearing the same shirt. His band, The E Street Band, played with tons of energy too.
One of his big songs, No Surrender, got everyone jumping up and down together. It’s a song from way back in 1986, but it still feels fresh and fun today. Later, Bruce saved some of his most famous hits—like Born in the USA, Born to Run, and Dancing in the Dark—for the end. He played them in an extra-long encore that lasted over 30 minutes, and the crowd went wild!
Even after three hours, Bruce didn’t slow down. He kept the fans dancing, jumping, and singing past midnight. At one point, he played a slower song called Darkness On the Edge of Town. It gave everyone a chance to catch their breath. As the night got dark outside, people turned on their phone lights and lighters, making the stadium glow. It was a beautiful moment.
Another fun song was Hungry Heart. Bruce let the crowd sing the start all by themselves, and then he joined in, waving his arms side to side with everyone. Halfway through the concert, he shared a special story. He talked about being 15 years old in 1965, playing guitar with his first band, The Castiles. He wrote a song called Last Man Standing for his old friends who aren’t here anymore. He played it on an acoustic guitar, and it was super emotional. “When someone we love passes away, it reminds us to live life the best we can,” he said. The crowd listened quietly, feeling the love in his words.
Other songs like Back Streets and Because The Night were huge hits too. The drums in Back Streets were loud and exciting, and thousands of fans sang along to Because The Night. From beginning to end, Bruce and his band played rock music that made everyone happy.
Bruce is coming back to the same stadium on Saturday night. Between the two shows, 115,000 fans will see him this week! Tickets for Thursday sold out super fast last November—50,000 in just 30 minutes—so they added the second show. Fans in Catalonia really love Bruce. He’s been playing here since 1981, and they’ve had a special connection ever since.
Last year, in 2023, Bruce started his European tour in Barcelona too. Those shows were delayed because of the pandemic, so fans were extra excited to see him. Big stars like former President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Steven Spielberg, Kate Capshaw, and Tom Hanks even came to watch! Both concerts sold out in minutes, and people called it “euphoria”—that means super happy energy.
Bruce Springsteen and Catalonia have been friends for a long time. His music brings people together, and his concerts are like big parties that kids and grown-ups can all enjoy! If you want to know more about why Catalonia loves him so much, check out the Filling the Sink podcast from May 6, 2023.
