Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande amazed everyone at the 2025 Oscars with a super special performance. They sang so well that the whole crowd stood up and clapped for them!
These two stars from the movie Wicked sang three songs about the Wizard of Oz. Ariana started first, wearing a shiny red dress and red shoes that looked like Dorothy’s famous ruby slippers from the 1939 movie. She sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” a song made famous by Judy Garland long ago.
Then Cynthia sang “Home,” a pretty song from a 1975 play called The Wiz. She wore a white dress with purple flowers that turned green at the bottom, reminding people of her Wicked character, Elphaba, and Diana Ross’s Dorothy from the 1978 movie.
For the big finish, they held hands and sang “Defying Gravity” from their 2024 film Wicked, which is up for 10 Oscars. Near the end, Ariana stepped back so Cynthia could sing the really high notes all by herself. It was so good that everyone at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood jumped up to cheer. The camera even showed the Wicked director, Jon M. Chu, and their co-star Michelle Yeoh, who was crying happy tears while clapping.
This wasn’t the only music at the Oscars that night—other singers like Doja Cat, Lisa from BLACKPINK, and Raye were set to perform too. A few days before, on February 24, the Oscars people posted online that Cynthia and Ariana would do a “magical” show, and they sure did! You can watch it online to see how awesome it was!
