Bill Murray and Clint Eastwood Sing a ’70s Hit

If you ever needed proof that you can find just about anything on YouTube, here’s a great example. During the 2012 AT&T Pro-Am golf tournament at Pebble Beach, Hollywood legends Bill Murray and Clint Eastwood attended a private party where they were persuaded to get on stage and sing with the band.

Bill Murray, known for his comedy routines as Nick the Lounge Singer on Saturday Night Live with Paul Shaffer, was no stranger to performing. Clint Eastwood, who has composed and performed music for several of his films, was 81 years old at the time, having been born on May 31, 1930.

As the four-piece band began playing the 1972 hit Brandy You’re a Fine Girl by Looking Glass, Murray stepped up to the microphone. Looking Glass, formed at Rutgers University in 1969, came close to being one-hit wonders. Brandy topped the charts and was one of the biggest singles of the year. Their only other notable release, Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne, peaked at number 33 in 1973.

At the party, Murray gave his best impression of the original singer’s laid-back vocal style, singing the opening lines with flair. He repeatedly encouraged Eastwood to join in, but Clint didn’t know the words and looked more amused than eager. At one point, he just said, what a band. Murray tried to get him to sing the chorus, but Eastwood smiled and said he didn’t know the lyrics and should probably move along.

In the end, Murray carried the performance with his usual charm, while Eastwood enjoyed the moment from the sidelines. A fun and classic video moment.
