Blake Shelton Honors Joe Diffie with Show-Stopping Tribute at Opry 100 Celebration

Blake Shelton, a famous country singer, took a break from hosting a big TV show to sing a special song for his late friend, Joe Diffie. The show was called NBC’s Opry 100: A Live Celebration, and it happened on a Wednesday night. Blake sang Joe’s fun song “Pickup Man” on the Grand Ole Opry stage. Other singers like Carrie Underwood and Terri Clark watched from the audience, along with new stars like Priscilla Block and Chase Matthew, who sang along too.

While Blake sang about a cool truck and meeting his wives in traffic jams, a picture of Joe Diffie showed up on a screen behind him. The song says things like, “You can set my truck on fire or roll it down a hill, but I still love it more than a fancy car.” At the end, Blake yelled, “God bless Joe Diffie!” and everyone stood up to clap for Joe, who was a big star in the 1990s.

Joe Diffie died on March 29, 2020, when he was 61 years old, because he got sick with the coronavirus. He was part of the Grand Ole Opry for over 25 years and sang popular songs like “John Deere Green” and “Pickup Man.” Lots of new country singers still love his music, and some even mention him in their own songs.

The TV show was a huge party for the Grand Ole Opry’s 100th birthday. It showed how important the Opry has been for country music for 100 years. Tons of famous singers like Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, and Luke Combs performed too. They all came together to sing and remember the good times country music has given us.
