Celtic Thunder’s ‘GEORGE’ Video Gives Fans an Emotional Look Back at the Late George Donaldson’s Amazing Talent

Celtic Thunder fans were treated to an emotional journey through the legacy of the late George Donaldson with the release of a new tribute video titled “GEORGE.”

The over five-minute video celebrates Donaldson’s remarkable career, highlighting his iconic performances and the unforgettable presence that made him a beloved member of the group.

Born and raised in Glasgow, Donaldson was a self-taught musician proficient in both guitar and flute, inspired by his late father, Bernard. His passion for Celtic music shone through every performance, from playing before 65,000 fans at Celtic Park in 2000 to becoming a cornerstone of Celtic Thunder after joining in 2007.

Known as the only Scottish member of the group and the only married man, he played a key role in establishing the show’s celebration of Irish and Scottish heritage.

Donaldson appeared in all nine of Celtic Thunder’s special concerts and on every CD and DVD. His extensive touring included St. Patrick’s Day parades in Chicago, Boston, and New York City, as well as a performance at the White House for President and First Lady Obama.

Fans flooded social media with heartfelt reactions. One wrote, “A beautiful tribute to such a talented man. Rest in Peace George, you left us way too soon.”

Beyond Celtic Thunder, Donaldson was celebrated as one of Glasgow’s finest folk singer-songwriters. His solo debut The White Rose (2011) and follow-up The World In My Mind garnered critical acclaim, and he won the Irish Music Awards in both 2011 and 2012.
