Country music has a special way of bringing people together. Some of the best songs ever came from two singers teaming up, like Johnny Cash and June Carter, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, or Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty. Today, fans are super excited for two big country stars, Lainey Wilson and Cody Johnson, to sing together. They’ve hinted before about doing a duet of “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man,” an old song by Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. And recently, people who went to Cody Johnson’s last concert of 2024 got a little taste of what these two sound like together. It was awesome, and now everyone wants more!
Lainey Wilson Joins Cody Johnson Onstage
Cody Johnson had an amazing year in 2024, and it looks like he’s just getting started. The 37-year-old from Texas won his first Album of the Year award at the CMAs for his album called Leather. On Friday, December 13, he finished the year with a huge sold-out concert at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
But the best part came at the end. Cody surprised everyone by bringing Lainey Wilson onstage! Together, they sang “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys.” They were both smiling so big, you could tell they were having a blast. At one point, Cody even yelled, “That’s Lainey Wilson!” to let the crowd know how excited he was.

The song they sang was first made by a singer named Ed Bruce in 1975. He wrote it with his wife, Patsy Bruce. Later, in 1978, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson sang it together and made it really famous.
Lainey Wilson’s Big Dreams Come True
Lainey Wilson worked hard to become a star. Back in 2011, she left her small hometown in Louisiana and moved to Nashville. She lived in a camper trailer outside a recording studio while chasing her dreams.
The last few years have been huge for her. She won a Grammy for the best country album and a CMA Award for being the best female singer. But there’s one thing that made her feel like she really “made it,” and it’s not an award.
“When I got asked to join the Grand Ole Opry this year, that was the best thing ever,” Lainey told People magazine. “It’s better than any trophy. The Grand Ole Opry is a magical place. My parents took me there when I was nine, and I never forgot it.”
Lainey and Cody singing together was a special moment, and it’s easy to see why fans are hoping they’ll make more music as a team!
