Eminem’s résumé is stacked—movie roles, millions of albums sold, even an Oscar for “Lose Yourself.” But ask the rap legend what he’s most proud of, and it’s not the awards or the spotlight. It’s raising his kids. On a recent episode of Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, the 47-year-old Detroit icon opened up about his family, shining a light on what matters most to him.
Hailie: The Star of His Heart
Eminem couldn’t hold back his pride when talking about his daughter Hailie, 24, whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Mathers. “She’s made me proud for sure,” he beamed. Hailie graduated from Michigan State University in 2018 with a psychology degree, rocking a near-perfect 3.9 GPA. “It’s definitely crazy” seeing her all grown up, he said, adding that she’s got a boyfriend and is “doing good.” Recently, Hailie posted a selfie on Instagram, urging fans to stay home during the coronavirus pandemic—a grounded move that echoes her dad’s values.
A Family Beyond Biology
Eminem’s dad duties don’t stop with Hailie. He also raised his niece, Alaina Marie Mathers, 26, who he calls “pretty much like a daughter.” Alaina’s late mom was Kim’s twin sister, and Eminem stepped up to give her a home. Then there’s Whitney Scott Mathers, 17, Kim’s daughter from another relationship, whom Eminem adopted. His family’s a tight-knit crew, built on love, not just blood.
Keeping It Real
Sure, his kids grew up with wealth, but Eminem worked hard to keep them humble. “I always tried to keep them grounded,” he said. For him, that’s the real win. “When I think about my accomplishments, that’s probably the thing I’m most proud of—being able to raise kids.”
From rap battles to red carpets, Eminem’s done it all. But at the end of the day, it’s his role as a dad that’s his true legacy.
