How Dr Dre helped Eminem and Snoop Dogg to end their feud

Eminem and Snoop Dogg share many things in common. Not only are they both highly respected MCs who are considered legends in the culture, but their stories began the same way: Dr Dre heard their voices on a demo.

Dr Dre first heard the tones of Snoop in 1991 after Warren G (Dre’s step-brother) showed him a demo. Six years later, in 1997, after the rise and fall of Death Row Records, Dre heard Eminem’s voice on a demo given to him by an A&R at Interscope. They would be two voices that would not only help define Dre’s own legacy but launch their careers and change hip-hop forever. However, their entwined careers hadn’t always happily shared the same space.

Slim Shady and Snoop Dogg have had a tenuous relationship over the years, according to Eminem. Speaking to his manager Paul Rosenberg for his podcast Paul Pod, the ‘Crack A Bottle’ rapper explained that the discord began with Snoop’s appearance on ‘Bitch Please II’, a track on Eminem’s 2000 album The Marshall Eminem LP that also featured Dr Dre and Xzibit.

Divulging how their somewhat dormant feud began with a simple misunderstanding, Eminem revealed, “I think that there was a miscommunication at the time in regards to him being on my album.” The rapper continued, “I think he had wanted to do something with me, and you said something to the effect of, ‘Well, let’s hear what the song is first,’ and he said the way that he took it was… that I don’t fuck with him.”

The ‘Stan’ rapper then went on to clarify how Snoop had misinterpreted entirely the situation revealing that he actually loves Snoop Dogg as he declared, “Doggystyle changed my life…[I’ve] looked up to him forever”.

Eminem went on to explain that it actually took Dr Dre’s brain aneurysm for the two to clear up the misunderstanding. As a close friend of Dre, Eminem revealed that he felt it was vital that they show a united front to help their friend through what was a near-death predicament.

Recalling how the two finally settled the situation, Shady revealed that the two actually reached out to each other simultaneously following the tragic news. Eminem expounded, “When that thing happened with Dre, we were like, ‘Bro, this is stupid,’” Eminem said. “This is stupid as hell to be feuding right now.” Since settling the feud, the two are close and have even made appearances together, with both rappers appearing at Dr Dre’s Super Bowl Halftime show in 2022. Furthermore, the pair have even collaborated on music together, such as ‘From The D 2 the LBC’, which appeared on Em’s Curtain Call 2.

During a discussion with DJ Whoo Kid, Snoop Dogg explained what it’s like working with Eminem, stating, “When I rap with Eminem, I know I got to be f*ckin way up, because this n*gga ain’t playing! [Eminem] makes you go hard!” Still, it is unbelievable that it took a close friend’s brain aneurysm to make the two work together again after 2000’s ‘Bitch Please II’.
