Just weeks after winning Season 23 of American Idol, Jamal Roberts is giving fans another reason to celebrate—this time, off the stage. The 27-year-old singer and PE teacher from Meridian, Mississippi, shared a touching moment with fans by posting the first photos of his newborn baby girl. Along with the sweet clip, he revealed her full name, Gianna Grace Roberts, and opened up about what it means to him.
But while he let fans into this joyful chapter of his life, one thing remains private: the identity of the baby’s mother.

A Star on Stage — and a Proud Father at Home
Roberts won the hearts of millions with his powerful voice and heartfelt performances, ultimately clinching the American Idol crown during the May 18 finale. After topping the viewer vote and performing his moving rendition of Tom Odell’s “Heal,” Jamal made history—becoming the first Black man to win since Ruben Studdard in 2003, and doing so after what host Ryan Seacrest called “the biggest finale vote in show history.”
But Jamal’s story didn’t stop there.
Just two weeks before that life-changing finale, Jamal welcomed his third daughter, Gianna Grace. On Instagram, he proudly introduced her to the world with the caption: “Hey world, meet my little ladybug, Gianna Grace Roberts. I’m so proud to be her father.”
Fans and fellow celebrities flooded the comments with congratulations and warm wishes, praising not only his music but also his devotion as a father.
What’s in a Name? A Lot of Heart
The name Gianna, of Italian origin, means “God is gracious”—a touching nod to the blessings in Jamal’s life. Her middle name, Grace, adds a sense of elegance and gratitude. Together, the name Gianna Grace carries deep emotional weight, reflecting Jamal’s joy and humility as he embraces fatherhood once again.
“Names matter,” Jamal’s fans echoed online. And for Jamal, it’s clear this name carries his hopes and dreams for his daughter.
Keeping Some Things Private
While Jamal is happy to share his love for his daughters—Harmoni (6), Lyrik (4), and newborn Gianna—he remains private about the identity of their mother. In interviews, including one with Billboard, Jamal acknowledged that he’s not married, and chose to become a father before following traditional paths.
“I went against tradition,” he said. “But being a dad is the best thing that ever happened to me.”
His fans respect his choice to protect parts of his personal life while still sharing his joy as a father and musician.
From Church Choir to Idol Champion
Before American Idol, Roberts’ musical journey started in church at age 2. With a bishop for a grandfather on one side and a deacon on the other, Jamal was surrounded by music and faith. Though he admits he wasn’t a fan of choir, he loved performing—and often won talent shows as a kid.
He even competed on BET’s Sunday Best in 2020, finishing in the top three before taking another shot at stardom on American Idol—a risk that clearly paid off.
A New Chapter for a Rising Star
With a $250,000 prize, a recording contract, and a growing fanbase, Jamal Roberts has a bright career ahead of him. But beyond the spotlight, it’s clear that fatherhood is his proudest role.
By sharing this personal moment with fans, Jamal reminds us all that even music stars have everyday joys, sleepless nights, and quiet moments of love.
As Jamal steps into this new chapter—both as an artist and as a dad of three—we wish him and his growing family all the best.
