In September 2017, Miley Cyrus spent a whole week on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to tell everyone about her new album, Younger Now. She had a blast every night, playing games, singing songs, and talking with Jimmy. One of the coolest moments happened on Wednesday, October 4th, when Miley and Jimmy sang a special duet together.
They decided to honor Miley’s godmother, Dolly Parton, and her singing partner, Kenny Rogers, by performing their famous song “Islands in the Stream.” To make it extra fun, they dressed up like Dolly and Kenny! Jimmy came out first, wearing a fancy tuxedo, a gray wig, and a fake gray beard, looking just like Kenny. Then Miley walked out in a beautiful black dress and a tall blonde wig, pretending to be Dolly. They looked so much like the real stars!
Not only did they dress up, but they also sang really well, and the stage looked like the one Dolly and Kenny used way back in the 1970s. The song “Islands in the Stream” came out in 1983 and was written by a group called the Bee Gees. At first, it was meant for a different singer named Marvin Gaye, but it turned into a huge country-pop hit with Dolly and Kenny singing it. It became super popular and made them even more famous.
Kenny Rogers watched Miley and Jimmy’s performance and loved it! He said, “Jimmy Fallon and Miley Cyrus make a great duet… maybe they can perform instead of us! I really liked it.” It was a fun and happy moment that showed how much Miley and Jimmy admire Dolly and Kenny.
