Kanye West has just dropped his brand-new album “Bully”, but not in the traditional way. On March 18, Ye released the project as a short film, sharing several versions on X (formerly Twitter) and surprising fans with an experimental approach.
In his first post, Kanye revealed that the album was “not finished and half the vocals [are] AI,” but he still wanted to get feedback from fans. He later released three versions of the short film in collaboration with legendary director Hype Williams:
- Screening Version
- Post Hype Version
- Post Post Hype Version
All three versions showcase Kanye’s son, Saint, in a wrestling ring using a mallet for over 30 minutes—soundtracked by the new album, which heavily features soul samples.
Interestingly, instead of streaming the album on major platforms like Spotify or Apple Music, Kanye made it available exclusively through Adobe’s Frame.io platform, continuing his non-traditional rollout strategy.
In a recent interview with Justin LaBoy, Kanye explained the meaning behind Bully. He said the inspiration came from his son Saint, who he jokingly called a “bully” after learning he had kicked another kid for being “weak.”
“This is more the way I remember Lauryn Hill’s album—the way I remember Miseducation,” Kanye said. “It’s my Miseducation. It’s my Gnarls Barkley album. Bully has a title and connotation people don’t like, but I’m just on a different frequency right now.”
Back in October, journalist Touré shared early details about the project, revealing Kanye was recording Bully alone in a Tokyo hotel room, working without his usual team of producers and writers.
“It’s a concept album, and he plans to be the only producer on it,” Touré said. “This time, Kanye is doing it all himself. A fresh chapter in his life—because in Tokyo, he can be who he wants to be.”
Whether fans love or question this new direction, Bully clearly represents another bold creative chapter in Kanye West’s unpredictable career.
