Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts Set the Capitol Theatre on Fire with a Wild Mix of Soulful Acoustics and Face-Melting Jams

Neil Young and his new band, The Chrome Hearts, put on an amazing show at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. It was their first big concert as the main act, right after playing at Farm Aid. They played 14 songs, mixing soft, gentle tunes with loud, rocking ones.

A Mix of Quiet and Loud Songs

Neil sang some songs like “Comes a Time” and “Journey Through the Past” with just his guitar, making the crowd feel calm and happy. Then he switched to big, exciting songs like “Powderfinger” and “Big Time,” where the band played long, fun jams that got everyone cheering.

The best part was a super-long version of “Down by the River” that lasted 13 minutes! Neil and Micah Nelson played their guitars like they were having a friendly battle, making awesome sounds together. The rest of the band—Spooner Oldham on the organ, Anthony LoGerfo on drums, and Corey McCormick on bass—kept up with Neil perfectly, adding their own special touch.

Looking Back and Moving Forward

Neil played a lot of songs from his old album Harvest Moon, which made it feel like a trip back in time. Micah Nelson played a cool instrument called the pedal steel, reminding everyone of a musician named Ben Keith who used to play with Neil. When Neil picked up his famous guitar, Old Black, Micah played just as wildly as some of Neil’s old bandmates, like Danny Whitten and Poncho Sampedro.

The Chrome Hearts started as a band for a few small shows, but after this night, it seems like they could be Neil’s team for a long time. His old band, Crazy Horse, might not play with him anymore, but this concert showed that The Chrome Hearts are ready to keep Neil’s music alive and exciting for everyone.
