Rock fans will love watching Neil Young & Pearl Jam perform a smoking version of Neil Young’s ” Rockin’ in the Free World.” The all-star jam was performed at the 1993 MTV Music Awards. The sound of Neil Young’s gritty vocals and loud distorted guitar matched perfectly with the dark grunge Pearl Jam sound. Pure Rock and Roll is ageless and the combination of Pearl Jam’s intense moody rhythmic playing against Neil Young’s fiery guitar lines made for one of Rock and Roll’s greatest jam sessions of the 1990s. In 1995, Pearl Jam recorded an album with Neil Young entitled, Mirror Ball. At the time it was the twenty-second album that Neil Young had released as a solo artist. Neil Young’s intensity on stage was perfectly matched by Eddie Vedder.
Neil Young’s professional recording career began back in 1969 when he formed the band Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills. In 1969 he joined Crosby Still and Nash. Neil Young’s first solo album was released in 1968. Since then, Neil Young has released thirty-five solo albums. Neil Young was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1995 as a solo artist. He was inducted again in 1997 as a member of Buffalo Springfield. Neil Young has been involved in various charities throughout his career. One of his biggest charities was an organization called the Bridge School which was formed to benefit children with physical disabilities. The charities benefited from a series of concerts called the Bridge School Benefit concerts.
Pearl Jam emerged out of the Seattle grunge scene in the early 1990s. Although they may have hailed from the scene, their music always seemed more geared toward traditional American rock and Roll with a darker edge. They have released ten albums since their debut in 1991. Their last release called Gigaton was released in 2020. Eddie Vedder recently released a solo album entitled Earthling in February of 2022 that was met with much fanfare from critics and Pearl Jam fans.
