Playboi Carti is riding high after his latest album, Music, hit gold status—over 500,000 sales—in just two weeks. The Atlanta rapper shared the big news on social media with a screenshot of a text confirming the milestone, captioning it, “FEELING LIKE WEEZY WE ALREADY PLATINUM N DA STREETS.” He’s clearly drawing a parallel to Lil Wayne’s iconic 2008 moment when Tha Carter III sold a million copies in its first week. Adding to the celebration, the text pointed out that the gold certification landed on the anniversary of Carti’s breakout hit “Broke Boi”—talk about a full-circle win!
Last week, Carti gave another shoutout to Lil Wayne by dropping a deluxe version of Music titled Sorry 4 Da Wait, a nod to Wayne’s classic mixtape series and an apology to fans for the album’s long delay. The deluxe edition added tracks like “Different Day,” “2024,” “Backr00ms,” and “FOMDJ”—all previously released in some form before Music dropped earlier this month.
The numbers don’t lie: Music debuted with 283,000 units, making it the biggest rap album launch of 2025 and the second-biggest debut across all genres, trailing only The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow (490,000 units). It also racked up the most streams for any album since Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department last May. For Carti, this marks his best first-week sales ever and his second No. 1 album, topping his 2020 release Whole Lotta Red (100,000 units).
But not everything’s perfect. Carti’s been vocal about his sales figures, claiming they’re off. After Akademiks posted on X that Music moved 298,000 units, Carti replied, “320,” hinting he thinks it should be higher. Even earlier, when projections pegged the album at 250,000 units and excluded physical sales, he tweeted, “IT IS ODD.” Billboard later clarified that Music was only sold as a digital download at first, with CDs coming later.
Gold in two weeks and still climbing—Carti’s definitely feeling like a legend right now.
