Sean Ono Lennon Celebrates Paul McCartney’s 80th Birthday with Cover of The Beatles’ “Here, There And Everywhere”

Sean Ono Lennon sang a simple, acoustic version of “Here, There and Everywhere,” a song by The Beatles from 1966, and shared it on June 18 to say happy 80th birthday to Paul McCartney. Sean posted it on Instagram and wrote, “I heard this is one of your favorite Beatles songs, so Happy Birthday! Thank you for all your amazing music. You have my love and the world’s love too.” He also said, “This isn’t perfect because the song is so pretty, I kept getting emotional and had to start over.”

The song comes from The Beatles’ album Revolver. Paul McCartney wrote it, though it’s credited to both him and John Lennon. Paul has said it’s one of his favorite songs he ever made. He wrote it in June 1966 after listening to The Beach Boys’ album Pet Sounds, which came out that year. He loved their song “God Only Knows” so much—it’s his favorite song ever—and it gave him ideas for his own music.

Paul started writing “Here, There and Everywhere” while visiting John Lennon’s house in Weybridge. He said, “I sat by the pool with my guitar and played some chords in E. By the time John woke up, I had most of the song ready. We went inside and finished it together.”

Paul just finished a big concert tour in the United States at MetLife Stadium on June 16, where he sang with famous friends Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi. Next, he’s going to be the main singer at the Glastonbury Festival on June 26. Sean’s birthday gift shows how much Paul’s music means to everyone!
