Slater Nalley Joins Play It Again Music as He Launches His Next Chapter—With a Surprising Link to Luke Bryan

Just days after graduating high school — virtually, no less, while preparing for his final American Idol Season 23 performance — Slater Nalley has officially launched his professional music career with a major management deal.

On May 23, 2025Music Row confirmed that the 18-year-old Atlanta native has signed with Play It Again Music (PIA), a Nashville-based management company founded by hit country songwriter Dallas Davidson. The company takes its name from Luke Bryan’s 2013 chart-topper, “Play It Again,” co-written by Davidson, a longtime friend of Bryan and a key figure in shaping the sound of modern country.

From Viral Audition to the Big Leagues

Nalley’s Idol journey began with a moment that stopped the judges — and the internet — in their tracks. Backed by his English teacher, Michelle Davis, Slater performed a heart-wrenching original, “Traces of You,” written in memory of Davis’ late son, Carter, who was tragically killed in 2016. The audition racked up 5.9 million views on TikTok within days of airing and launched Nalley into the national spotlight.

With his unique southern rock-meets-soul sound, heartfelt storytelling, and laid-back charisma, Nalley consistently stood out in the competition, earning his way into the Top 5 and onto the radar of music industry heavyweights.

“Slater Nalley Is Special,” Says PIA Founder Dallas Davidson

Dallas Davidson, who’s helped pen over 30 No. 1 country hits for stars like Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, and Jason Aldean, didn’t hold back when describing Nalley’s potential.

“Slater Nalley is special,” Davidson told Music Row. “This young man checks all my boxes — raw talent, good character, and the maturity of a seasoned artist. He carries himself with a grace that’s rare at any age.”

He praised Nalley’s upbringing, crediting his parents, Slater Sr. and Katie, for raising a grounded, respectful young man ready to take on the industry.

“I can’t wait to start making music with Slater,” Davidson added. “He’s going to make waves — not just in country music, but globally. PIA is proud to represent him as he starts this exciting chapter.”

A Partnership Rooted in Georgia

The partnership is more than a professional move — it’s a homegrown connection. Though based in Nashville, Davidson and Bryan remain deeply tied to Georgia, where both were raised and where Nalley and his family still live. Davidson continues to support music education through the Georgia Music Foundation, which he once led and still serves.

With that shared Georgia heritage and a mutual love of authentic storytelling, Nalley’s signing to PIA feels like a perfect fit.

Nalley Looks Ahead: “This Is Just the Beginning”

In his own statement to Music Row, Nalley expressed his gratitude and excitement for what’s ahead.

“The past few months of American Idol have been nothing short of a blessing,” he said. “I feel more inspired than ever to create music that speaks to my fans.”

He added that the belief shown by Davidson and the PIA team gave him a renewed sense of confidence.

“I’m thrilled to be working with such a talented and supportive group. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together. Stay tuned, y’all.”

What’s Next for Slater Nalley?

Nalley’s debut single, “Traces of You,” was released through Idol’s label partner, 19 Recordings, just before the finale. While it’s unclear if he’ll continue releasing music through that label, fans are already eager for what’s next.

Whether he’s performing John Prine covers on national TV, collaborating with Nashville’s songwriting elite, or simply connecting with fans through his music, one thing is clear: Slater Nalley’s story is just beginning — and country music better make room.
