On July 7, 1979, the Bee Gees, a famous music group, had a huge concert at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The Bee Gees were three brothers named Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb. They sang so many of their popular songs—more than 12 hits that everyone loved! The concert lasted 90 minutes, and 56,000 people came to watch, filling up the whole stadium.
A writer named Robert Hilburn from the Los Angeles Times newspaper wrote about the show a few days later on July 9, 1979. He said the Bee Gees made Dodger Stadium feel like a winner again. The Dodgers, the baseball team that plays there, weren’t doing so well that year—they finished with a record of 79 wins and 83 losses, coming in third place in their group. But the Bee Gees’ concert was a big success! Robert even hoped the baseball team would feel inspired after such a great night.
The Bee Gees sang 16 of their top songs that night. It was their first big show in the area since their music was in a super popular movie called “Saturday Night Fever.” The crowd, mostly young fans, cheered and screamed so loud because they loved the music. The Gibb brothers’ younger brother, Andy Gibb, even came on stage at the end to sing with them, which made everyone extra excited.
During the concert, a famous actress named Barbra Streisand was there watching. She borrowed a big camera with a long lens from a photographer named George Rose. The camera was on a stand, and Barbra used it to get a closer look at the stage. George later said that Barbra walked up to him, said hello, and asked to use the camera. He already knew who she was because she was so famous! It was a funny moment, and some people nearby came over to see what was happening. George took a few pictures of Barbra using his camera to remember the moment.
Sadly, the Gibb brothers are no longer with us. Andy Gibb passed away in 1988, Maurice Gibb in 2003, and Robin Gibb in 2012. But their music still makes people happy today. This story about their 1979 concert was first shared on May 13, 2014, to remind everyone of that amazing night at Dodger Stadium.
