Things got rowdy when legendary Hank Williams, Jr. and southern rock royalty, Kid Rock, got together and tore up the stage with their fantastic duet version of Hank Jr.’s timeless hit, “Family Tradition”!
Kid Rock sang one lyric from the iconic tune and the crowd went absolutely nuts, knowing which song they were about to sing.
“Family Tradition” was both written and recorded by Hank Jr. in 1979 and is considered one of his signature song. It peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.
This popular song is known to be Williams’ statement of rebellion. He talks about how drugs and alcohol are a way of life when it comes to his family, and even though he’s been disowned by his “kinfolk,” he’s not going to change how he is because it’s a “family tradition.”
The two stars performed this song like great friends, answering each other and just having a great time. While Hank Jr. performed the chorus, Kid Rock echoed with the popular words that over the years have become a tradition when the chorus is sung: “Why do ya drink?” “To get drunk!”
