Bruce Springsteen has debuted a music video for his recently released archival song “Blind Spot,” which will appear on the New Jersey rock legend’s upcoming box set, Tracks II: The Lost Albums. As previously reported, “Blind Spot” will be featured on Streets of Philadelphia Sessions, one of seven previously unheard full-length albums collected in the box set.
The black-and-white video features recent, artfully shot footage of a pensive Springsteen driving a car through the desert, mixed with vintage film clips of Bruce in the studio during the 1990s. The promo also includes brief glimpses of a couple of attractive women. You can watch the video now at Springsteen’s official YouTube channel.
“Blind Spot” is a brooding, synth-driven tune featuring a rhythm track created by an audio loop. Lyrically, the song seems to be about a toxic romantic relationship.
As explained in a press release about “Blind Spot,” the song “explores doubt and betrayal in relationships,” which was a main focus of the Streets of Philadelphia Sessions album.
“That was just the theme that I locked in on at that moment,” Bruce noted. “[S]ometimes if you lock into one song you like, then you follow that thread. I had ‘Blind Spot,’ and I followed that thread through the rest of the record.”
More About the Streets of Philadelphia Sessions Album
Streets of Philadelphia Sessions dates back to the early-to-mid 1990s, around the time he recorded his Oscar-winning song “Streets of Philadelphia” from the Tom Hanks film Philadelphia. The sessions found the Boss delving into the sounds of popular contemporary music at that time, including West Coast hip-hop.
Bruce worked on the 10-track album at his home in Los Angeles, utilizing drum samples to make his own rhythmic loops with studio engineer Toby Scott. Springsteen then added keyboards and synthesizers to help complete the tracks.
Bruce planned to release the album in the spring of 1995. He inevitably shelved the project when he decided to reunite with the E Street Band around that time after a seven-year hiatus from working with the group.
