On Sunday’s edition of 4 The Record, singer Jackie Evancho sat down with host Michelle Wright to reflect on her career and talk about how it’s evolving.

Evancho, 25, came onto the scene as a young girl, capturing the attention of the nation.

Wright asked about the days of her singing “Phantom of the Opera” in the house and how her singular voice captivated the people around her.

“I genuinely don’t know where it comes from other than just a blessing,” Evancho said.

Evancho also talked about the nervousness she experienced early on.

“Initially, when I started performing, and it still happens, I feel like I become someone else,” Evancho said. “I used to say that I was possessed by the music because I guess, in a way, am I just step into this confidence and this frame of mind where I am so sure of what I’m doing, how I’m doing it, and I think that’s such a great feeling.”

When it comes to growing up in the spotlight, Evancho said, “There’s been ups and downs for sure” and offered this advice for young women who may experience similar pressures:

“I guess what I would say to the young women, especially, that are dealing with that is easier said, but that sort of thing really does not end up mattering. If anything, your individuality and your specific personality, the things that make you you, are going to work so much in your favor if you just embrace them and continue to be that as you grow up.”

She later added, “It’s OK to struggle because everybody does have a struggle. But you can’t give up on yourself. You have to keep trying. And it’s going to be years for me of trying, if not the rest of my life.”

Lately, Evancho has been transitioning from classical music to pop music.

“I was terrified to go in the studio,” Evancho said. “I spent weeks in my silent space by myself, just belting out everything that I could find, like my place again.”
