Legendary Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards turned 80 on Monday and received an outpouring of love from family and friends. He celebrated his milestone birthday on a sandy beach with his wife, Patti Hansen, and close friends, including bandmate Ronnie Wood and his family.
In a heartwarming Instagram post, Ronnie Wood’s wife, Sally, shared a photo from the celebration. Keith, dressed casually in a black T-shirt and striped shorts, stood beside his wife Patti, who was holding their pet dog. Ronnie and Sally were also present, along with their seven-year-old twin daughters, Gracie Jane and Alice Rose.
This special day had double significance for Keith, as he and Patti were also celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. Keith marked the occasion by posting a photo from their 1983 wedding, where they were seen cutting their wedding cake. In the caption, he wrote: “For Patricia, Happy 40th Anniversary! I love you. Keith.”
Ronnie Wood also honored Keith by sharing a throwback picture of him and writing: “Happy birthday, Keith! 80 today!”
Rolling Stones Announce a New Tour
In other exciting news, the Rolling Stones are preparing for their Hackney Diamonds Tour across North America in 2024. The band, led by Mick Jagger (80), Keith Richards (80), and Ronnie Wood (76), has hired singer Chanel Haynes as a backup vocalist for the tour.
Chanel, known for playing Tina Turner in the Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, made headlines last year when she lost her role after choosing to perform “Gimme Shelter” with the Rolling Stones in Italy. The band was impressed with her performance and offered her a spot on their upcoming tour.
A source shared: “The Stones had a close relationship with Tina Turner, and they were blown away by Chanel’s performance. She lost her job in the musical, but now she gets to tour with them across America.”
The tour will begin on April 28, 2024, in Houston, Texas, and will cover 16 cities across the U.S. and Canada, including Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta. Due to overwhelming demand, extra shows have been added in several cities.
This tour comes after the massive success of their 24th studio album, Hackney Diamonds, which debuted at number one and became one of the fastest-selling albums of the year.
Remembering Tina Turner
The Rolling Stones had a long-standing friendship with the late Tina Turner, who passed away in May 2023 at the age of 83. Tina once shared that she taught Mick Jagger how to dance, introducing him to the famous Pony dance move.
In a statement after her passing, her spokesperson said: “With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”
The Rolling Stones Keep Rocking
Despite their age, the Rolling Stones have no plans to stop making music. Keith Richards once said: “We’ll keep going until we drop.” Their upcoming tour proves just that, as they continue to perform for fans across the world.
