Reba, Carrie, and Dolly’s Electrifying “Those Memories of You” Opens 2019 CMA Awards with Historic Harmony

The 2019 Country Music Association Awards started with a bang when three famous singers—Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, and Dolly Parton—sang together on stage. They performed a song called “Those Memories Of You,” and soon other talented women like Tanya Tucker, Jennifer Nettles, and Martina McBride joined them to sing a mix of country songs. It was a fun way to celebrate women in country music.

Before they started singing, Reba, Carrie, and Dolly talked to the audience. They gave a shout-out to the Performer of the Year nominees, like Keith Urban, who was sitting with his wife, actress Nicole Kidman, looking happy. Carrie had hosted the show with Brad Paisley every year from 2008 to 2018, so Reba and Dolly teased that they were taking his spot this time, which made everyone laugh.

The song “Those Memories Of You” has a cool history. Back in 1987, Dolly Parton teamed up with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris to make an album called Trio. They were nicknamed the “Queenston Trio,” and the album had this song on it. It was first written and sung by a man named Alan O’Bryant and then by Bill Monroe. Other singers have sung it too over the years. The song is simple—it’s about someone who can’t stop thinking about a person they used to love.

The night was full of girl power, and seeing these amazing women sing together made the 2019 CMA Awards extra special for everyone watching.
