Bob Dylan mourns ‘shocking’ death of ‘lifelong friend’ Robbie Robertson: ‘His passing leaves a vacancy in the world’

Bob Dylan shared some sad news about his good friend Robbie Robertson, who passed away at 80 from prostate cancer. Robbie was the leader of a famous band called The Band, and he and Bob had been friends for over 50 years. They made music together and shared lots of special moments.

Back in the 1960s, Bob Dylan decided to play a new kind of music with electric guitars, and some people didn’t like it. But Robbie and The Band played with him on stage, helping make those shows amazing. One time, Robbie even saved Bob’s life when he was very tired and almost got hurt in a bathtub while they were traveling for concerts.

Two days after Robbie passed away, Bob told a magazine, “This is really sad. Robbie was my friend for life. The world feels empty without him.”

Robbie’s manager, who worked with him for 34 years, said Robbie was with his family when he passed, including his wife, children, and grandchildren. Robbie had just finished working on music for a new movie called Killers of the Flower Moon with his friend, the filmmaker Martin Scorsese. The movie is about a true story where people tried to take oil from Native Americans. Robbie’s mom was part of a Native American community in Canada, and his family asked people to donate to a cultural center there instead of sending flowers.

Robbie loved music from a young age. When he visited his mom’s family, everyone played instruments, sang, or danced, and he wanted to join in. He picked the guitar because he thought it looked cool, and his mom gave him one with a cowboy picture on it, which he thought was funny since he was Native American.

When he was a teenager, Robbie started playing music in Toronto and joined a group that later became The Band. They played with Bob Dylan during a big tour that some people loved and others didn’t. After that, The Band made their own music, with songs like “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” and “The Weight,” which lots of people still love today.

Robbie also worked with Martin Scorsese for a long time, making music for movies like Raging Bull and The Wolf of Wall Street. He even helped create a famous concert movie called The Last Waltz, where The Band played with stars like Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton.

Robbie and The Band had some tough times, like arguments and problems with drugs, but Robbie always tried to stay strong. In 1976, The Band played their last big show together, and it was a huge celebration with lots of famous musicians.

Robbie’s life was full of music and friendship, and even though he’s gone, his songs and stories will live on forever.
