John Foster, an 18-year-old country singer from Addis, Louisiana, brought the house down on *American Idol* Season 23 with his lively performance of Garth Brooks’ “Callin’ Baton Rouge.” Singing at the Aulani resort in Kapolei, Hawaii, during the Top 24 round on April 14, 2025, John had everyone dancing and cheering. His energy and classic country style reminded fans of a young Dwight Yoakam.
From the first note, John grabbed the audience’s attention. Even judge Carrie Underwood was smiling and cheering like a superfan! Lionel Richie called it a “national hero performance,” saying John’s voice and stage presence were full of true country spirit.
John grew up in West Baton Rouge Parish, where he started singing at 14. He loves old-school country music and looks up to legends like Johnny Cash, George Strait, and Willie Nelson. “Country music is the best, and I’m so happy to be a country singer,” John said. “I want my songs to make people happy, just like my heroes did for me.”
Before *American Idol*, John performed at small places in Louisiana, like Gros’ Marina in 2021. By 2022, he was booking his own shows. His big voice and love for music have now put him in the spotlight.
