A Historic Return to American Idol

On June 6, Nix made a surprise return to American Idol, this time not as a contestant, but as a guest judge for the first-ever live in-person auditions at CMA Fest in Nashville. In a joyful Instagram video, she shared behind-the-scenes footage:

“Hey guys, I am at the first ever in-person CMA auditions for ‘American Idol.’ I’m getting a seat behind the little judge seats and get to hear people.”

Her appearance drew major buzz, especially among Idol hopefuls who found inspiration in Nix’s own story—from a small-town mom to one of America’s most beloved new Christian country voices.

Grand Ole Opry Debut: A Dream Realized

Just a day before judging Idol auditions, Nix stepped into a country music dream—performing at the Grand Ole Opry for the first time on June 5. The moment was met with two standing ovations, especially during her rendition of “Higher” and the worship classic “The Goodness of God.”

On Instagram, Nix called it:

“An absolute dream come true… Thank You, Jesus, for this incredible opportunity—for Your faithfulness and grace in my life. I wouldn’t be here without it. All Glory to God.”

The Opry staff echoed that sentiment, telling fans Nix “left the crowd speechless.”

CMA Fest & A Special Duet with John Foster

Earlier that week, on June 4, Nix also performed at the 19/BMG Takeover at CMA Fest, sharing the stage with fellow Idol alum John Foster. The two surprised fans with a hauntingly beautiful duet of “Whiskey Lullaby” before their set—melding John’s warm country tone with Nix’s angelic vocals in a moment fans called “goosebump-worthy.”

A Star on the Rise

Since her American Idol journey, Nix has cultivated a rapidly growing fanbase drawn to her authentic faith, powerhouse vocals, and humble presence. Her single “Higher” is gaining traction as both a Christian and country hit, and fans are hungry for more.

One fan wrote after her Opry debut:

“Hurry and release an album. I don’t listen to Christian music, but I do now. You are such an uplifting human being.”

Another praised her authenticity:

“You’re living proof that dreams do come true! So proud of you and how you represent the faithful!”

Nix was also recently welcomed back to her hometown of Denton, Texas, with a full parade and concert at Denton Square, where thousands gathered to celebrate her success.
