Alan Jackson Brings ‘Chattahoochee’ Back to Life at Grand Ole Opry’s 100th Celebration

Tonight, March 19, 2025, the Grand Ole Opry is throwing a big party to celebrate 100 years of country music. Some of the most famous country singers are performing, and one of them is Alan Jackson. He sang his super popular song “Chattahoochee,” which lots of people love and remember from the 1990s.

Alan wrote “Chattahoochee” with his friend Jim McBride, and it came out in 1993 as part of his album A Lot About Livin’ (And a Little ‘bout Love). It was a huge hit! It reached the top of the country music charts and even made it to number 46 on a bigger chart that includes all kinds of music. That year, it was named the best country song and won two big awards at the CMA Awards. Even now, more than 30 years later, it’s still the song everyone thinks of when they hear Alan Jackson’s name.

Alan has been a big deal in country music since he started with his first album, Here in the Real World, in 1990. He sings in a classic country way and writes songs that lots of other singers look up to. But he doesn’t brag about it. He once told the Opry he admires two older country stars, Hank Williams and Merle Haggard, because they were amazing at writing songs. He said, “I don’t think I’m as good as them.”

Alan and the Grand Ole Opry go way back. He put out his first big album in February 1990, and just one month later, he sang at the Opry for the first time in March 1990. Then, on June 7, 1991, two famous singers, Roy Acuff and Randy Travis, welcomed him as an official Opry member. That was a huge honor!

Alan keeps old-style country music alive with his songs, which is why he was a perfect choice for the Opry 100: A Live Celebration tonight. His performance of “Chattahoochee” reminded everyone why he’s so special in country music!
