At the Grammy Awards on Sunday, something amazing happened! Barry Gibb, the only living member of the famous band the Bee Gees, stood up and clapped loudly after a group of talented singers honored his music. The singers were Little Big Town, Demi Lovato, Andra Day, and Tori Kelly. They performed some of the Bee Gees’ biggest hits from the 1970s at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Demi Lovato, a 24-year-old pop star, started the show with a strong version of “Stayin’ Alive.” She wore a sparkly jumpsuit and long hair extensions. Even though she didn’t win a Grammy that night—Adele did—she still shone brightly. Then Tori Kelly sang “Tragedy” while playing her guitar. It was a special night because it marked 40 years since the movie Saturday Night Fever and 50 years since the Bee Gees started making music together.
Barry, who is 70, didn’t seem too sure about Tori’s performance and gave her a confused look. But he loved when Little Big Town sang “How Deep Is Your Love?” with a fun country twist. It got stars like Rihanna and Carrie Underwood dancing in their seats! Barry even sang along with the group, which includes Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Phillip Sweet.
Next, Andra Day, who is 32, wore a cool quilted jacket and sang “Night Fever” with lots of energy. Oddly, John Travolta, the star of Saturday Night Fever, didn’t join the tribute, even though he was at the event introducing other singers like Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood.
The Bee Gees, who started in 1958, sold over 220 million records worldwide and won 15 Grammys. Sadly, Barry’s brothers, Maurice and Robin, passed away in 2003 and 2012. This tribute was a big way to celebrate their music. Soon, Barry will join other big singers like Celine Dion and John Legend for another special show called “Stayin’ Alive: A Grammy Salute,” which will air on CBS later this year. Plus, on Friday, the Bee Gees released a new remix of “Stayin’ Alive” by Serban Ghenea, a music expert who’s won eight Grammys. It was a night full of music, memories, and fun!
