Barry Gibb’s Hidden Past and Lingering Loss: A Legend’s Quiet Fear

Barry Gibb, the famous singer from the Bee Gees, recently shared some personal stories on a TV show called Piers Morgan’s Life Stories. He’s 70 years old now and has been married to his wife, Linda Gray, for 46 years. But when the host asked how they met, Barry got a little embarrassed. He didn’t want to talk about it because they were introduced by someone named Jimmy Savile, a person tied to some very bad things that happened long ago.

Barry explained that he met Linda in 1967 when she was 17 and a beauty queen from Scotland. It was during a TV show called Top of the Pops. He said it was love at first sight, and he knew right away she was the one he’d spend his life with. They’ve been together for 50 years now and have five kids. But he didn’t want to say more about how they met because of Savile, and his wife even shook her head from the audience to stop him from talking about it.

Barry also opened up about something really sad—losing his three younger brothers. Andy, who was a solo singer, died at 30 because of drug problems. Maurice passed away at 53 from a stomach issue, and Robin died at 62 from cancer. Barry said it’s been really hard to lose them. He still thinks about them all the time and misses how they used to be together, writing songs and having fun as brothers. He said it feels like a big hole in his heart, and it hurt his parents a lot too.

Now, as the only brother left, Barry admitted he’s scared of dying. He’s extra careful about things that could be dangerous. For example, he doesn’t like boiling water because he got burned as a kid, and he stays away from fire after his sister had an accident. He doesn’t drive fast or ride rollercoasters either. He just wants to stay safe and keep living, especially after losing so many people he loves.

Barry also mentioned that his long music career—he sold over 220 million records with the Bee Gees—has hurt his hearing. He wears hearing aids now because the loud music over the years damaged his ears. Still, he’s proud of his life, his family, and the songs he made with his brothers. His story shows how much he’s been through, from happy times to tough ones, and how he keeps going no matter what.
