Barry Gibb, the Isle of Man great, is 76 today. The music business and fans around the world are undoubtedly sending the singer well wishes to commemorate his milestone. Gibb rose to fame as a member of the Bee Gees, a disco diva trio that would go on to become one of the best-selling acts in UK history. Gibb was born and raised in Manchester, where he participated in the skiffle boom of the 1950s. When he was younger, his family relocated to Australia, where they would start to gain notoriety as a band.

Gibb’s amazing vocals and his renowned falsetto voice, which characterized the Bee Gees’ sound, were largely responsible for the band’s popularity.

In a 2002 interview with The Larry King Show, Gibb explained the origin of the sound and the factors he thought had shaped it.

“I had a dream that Arif Mardin, who was like an uncle to us, asked me to do this. He was a great record producer on the song ‘Nights On Broadway,’ for the Main Course album, which was before the ‘Fever’ syndrome,” he remarked.

‘Can any of you scream? scream in falsetto,’ he added. So, in the conclusion, give us a shout or an ad lib. S

“So from screaming, it turned into things like, ‘Blaming it all’.”

While his exploits behind the microphone are hailed, so to is his songwriting.

As the chief musician behind hits such as Tragedy, Jive Talkin’ and Stayin’ Alive, Gibb has earned a rare space in music history, as he shares the record for the most consecutive Billboard Hot 100 number ones with John Lennon and Paul McCartney, of the Beatles.

They had a total of six consecutive ones and sixteen original or co-written numbers.

Only McCartney is more successful than Gibb, according to the Guinness World Records list.

More recently, Gibb spoke of his heartbreak at the passing of music star Olivia Newton-John, who he had collaborated with a number of times.

The Grease actress and singer died earlier this month on August 8, as a result of breast cancer.

“I’m devastated by the loss of my dearest friend Olivia Newton-John,” Gibb wrote in a tribute posted on his Instagram account.

Growing up in Australia, we experienced the same adventure and savored each second of it.

We were aware that time was limited and that our time together was essential.

“Olivia, you will always be my sister and we will meet again. Love and light, Barry.”

Newton and Gibbs: Throughout her life, John and her partner sang on several songs, with many critics stating that their rendition of “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” from 2009 was their greatest.

She also sang a poignant rendition of the Bee Gees song “Rest Your Love On Me” in 1979 alongside Gibb’s brother, Andy Gibb.

Newton-John watched in wonder as Gibb led his brothers Robin and Maurice in a performance of Grease on stage in Las Vegas a year earlier.

Before it resurfaced in 2017, Newton-John was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992.

Newton-John’s spouse, John Easterling, released a statement announcing the news.

“Dame Olivia Newton-John died quietly this morning at her ranch in Southern California, surrounded by family and friends,” he said.

“During this extremely trying time, we kindly ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy.”
