Drake Admitted He Ordered Multiple Paternity Tests To Confirm Adonis Was His Son

Drake-Adonis-Sophie-Brussaux

Drake may be one of the biggest names in music, but when it comes to his son Adonis, the rapper has taken a much more personal—and sometimes complicated—path.

Back in 2018, Drake faced public scrutiny after rapper Pusha T accused him of hiding a secret child. The revelation shocked fans and brought attention to Drake’s relationship with French artist and former adult performer Sophie Brussaux, the mother of his son.

From Denial to DNA: Drake’s Complicated Start

At first, Drake’s team denied Sophie’s claims of pregnancy. A 2018 statement shared by Us Weekly described her as a woman with a “questionable background” and claimed she was “one of many women” making paternity claims. But privately, Drake was already working to confirm the truth.

On the Rap Radar podcast, Drake revealed that the initial DNA test results were inconclusive due to a shipping issue. He admitted it left him in a confusing place:

“I didn’t want to go tell the world that that was my son, and it wasn’t,” he said.
“It took me two more solid [DNA] tests with two different companies.”

Once he had confirmation, Drake publicly acknowledged Adonis in his 2018 album Scorpion and later began sharing glimpses of his life as a father.

Adonis Melts Fans’ Hearts

Despite early doubts—especially from fans who questioned Adonis’ appearance due to his blonde hair and blue eyes—Drake embraced fatherhood fully. A viral video of Adonis giving his dad a French lesson at age four earned over 12 million likes, showcasing the rapper’s softer side.

Sophie, who shares more frequent updates on social media, often posts adorable pictures and videos of Adonis, while Drake shares more selectively.

Co-Parenting and Controversy

Drake and Sophie now appear to be in a good place, co-parenting respectfully and privately. Sophie even wished Drake a public Happy Father’s Day in 2022 and reportedly moved to Canada to help facilitate a closer bond between father and son.

Still, the journey hasn’t been without bumps. In his 2020 track When to Say When, Drake referred to Sophie as a “fluke,” which sparked backlash online. Some defended him, claiming it was meant affectionately, while others saw it as disrespectful.

Yet, in more thoughtful moments—like his appearance on The Shop with LeBron James—Drake opened up:

“I don’t ever want the world to be angry at his mother. We have found ourselves in a situation, and we are both equally responsible.”

“No matter what happens, I have unconditional love for the mother of my child because I want him to love his mother.”
