Kanye West & Young Thug Show Love to Drake’s New Album
Drake’s latest album with PARTYNEXTDOOR, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, has caught the attention of both his on-and-off rival Kanye West and close friend Young Thug.
Kanye, who recently called Drake his “nemesis,” surprised fans by praising one of the songs from the album. Over the weekend, he posted on X (formerly Twitter):
“‘Gimme a Hug’ is incredible. Sheeeeesh.”
He even retweeted Chart Data’s report that the song had reached #1 on Apple Music’s U.S. chart.
Young Thug also celebrated the album’s success, posting:
“That boy back number one.”
How Is the Album Performing?
Despite mixed reviews, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U has been a huge hit on streaming platforms.
- Spotify: The album racked up 56.6 million streams on its first day, making it the second-biggest debut of 2024, behind The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow.
- Apple Music: It set a new all-time record for the most single-day streams for an R&B album.
- Spotify (again): Drake also temporarily passed Kendrick Lamar for the most single-day Spotify streams by a rapper this year, reaching 92.4 million streams.
The album is expected to make a big impact on the Billboard 200 chart, though official numbers aren’t in yet.
Drake’s Lyrics Address His Rivalries
On the song “Gimme a Hug,” Drake seems to reference his ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar:
“Drake elimination, fake intimidation / Take a minute, take a deep breath, have a little bit of patience / ‘Drizzy, you amazing, you the inspiration / You set the bar for the next generation.”
He also raps about haters wanting to see him fail:
“N-ggas want to see ‘RIP me’ on a t-shirt like I’m Hulk Hogan.”
And he hints at why he’s not settling down yet:
“Only reason I ain’t got a girl and I ain’t getting married / ‘Cause I’m really out here, filling up the itinerary ’til I’m six feet in a cemetery.”
Drake’s sharp lyrics and the album’s record-breaking streaming numbers prove that, despite the criticism, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U is making waves.
