Breanna Nix, a favorite contestant on American Idol, amazed everyone during the “Showstoppers” round of Hollywood Week. She sang a beautiful version of “The Trouble with Love Is” by Kelly Clarkson, and the judges loved it!
Meeting Breanna
Breanna first appeared on the show during her audition. She’s a stay-at-home mom who came to the audition with her husband and their little son, Emerson. While Breanna sang “Jesus, Take the Wheel” by Carrie Underwood, Emerson sat with Carrie behind the judges’ table and fell asleep in her arms. Carrie got teary-eyed watching the sweet moment.
All three judges—Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan—said “yes” to Breanna. This earned her a golden ticket to Hollywood! She then made it through a big elimination round and was one of 62 singers to reach the “Showstoppers” round.

Breanna’s Story
Before her “Showstoppers” performance, Breanna shared a bit about her life. She sometimes finds it hard to believe in herself. When she was 10, she learned that her stepfather wasn’t her real dad. Her biological dad is in prison and isn’t part of her life, which made her feel sad and wonder why she wasn’t enough.
But Breanna’s husband, Austin, helps her feel strong. He encourages her to follow her dreams, and that gave her the courage to shine on stage.
A Stunning Performance
Breanna’s performance of “The Trouble with Love Is” was incredible. She sang with so much power and hit really high notes that amazed everyone. In the middle of the song, Lionel Richie shouted, “Wow!” The judges couldn’t believe how great she sounded.
When Breanna finished, the judges stood up and clapped for her. Luke Bryan said he had “full body chills” because her singing was so good. Carrie later wrote on X that Breanna keeps surprising her and called the performance “so amazing!”
What’s Next?
Fans will find out on Monday, April 7, if Breanna makes it to the Top 24. If she does, she’ll get to sing at a beautiful place called Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, in Hawaii.
