Hosted by Megan Thee Stallion, this year’s VMAs kicked off with Eminem performing “Houdini”, a high-energy track from his new album The Death of Slim Shady, featuring a stage full of Slim Shady lookalikes. He followed up with a powerful rendition of “Somebody Save Me”, joined by genre-blending artist Jelly Roll, whose raw emotion and charisma added a soulful layer to the set.
The Death of Slim Shady is a concept album that explores the rise and symbolic end of Eminem’s infamous alter ego. As expected, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, receiving critical praise for its bold themes and creative direction. The official music video for “Somebody Save Me”, directed by Emil Nava, is already making waves for its striking visuals and emotional weight.
Eminem’s history with the VMAs dates back to his breakout year in 1999, where he performed alongside Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. One of those early tracks, “Guilty Conscience”, now has a sequel featured on the new album—bringing his journey full circle.
