Erykah Badu just shook up the internet with a surprising tweet—and it involves her own Tesla. As vandalism against Tesla vehicles continues to rise, especially since Elon Musk’s controversial political moves, the neo-soul icon playfully chimed in.
On Sunday (March 23), Badu posted on X (formerly Twitter):
“Just vandalized my own Tesla. Trying to stay on trend.”
Whether she was serious or just poking fun at the viral headlines, fans weren’t sure—especially with someone as mysterious and witty as Badu. Her post came amid a report from the Associated Press that attacks on Tesla cars, showrooms, and charging stations have increased significantly in the past two months. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
But that’s not all the “Love of My Life” singer has going on.

On the music front, Erykah Badu is finally returning with a new album—her first full-length studio release in over 15 years. And here’s the twist: it’s being produced entirely by legendary beatmaker The Alchemist.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Badu confirmed that her sixth studio album is well underway. The two first sparked rumors back in December when The Alchemist shared studio photos, calling their session “Life altering.”
Her last studio album, New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh), dropped back in March 2010 and debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Since then, she’s released a mixtape (But You Caint Use My Phone) and made rare feature appearances—including on Rapsody’s Grammy-winning track “3:AM,” which took home the 2025 Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
With a new album brewing and her usual sense of humor intact, Erykah Badu is clearly back in her bag.
