Kanye West has admitted he wishes he were friends with 50 Cent. The Chicago rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) on April 27th to reveal that 50 is one of his favourite people, putting him in the same category as Drake and the creative director of Balenciaga.
“I wish I was friends with 50,” he wrote. “One of my favourite rappers and people. It’s just certain people. 50, Drake, Demna. They all are they own kings in there own kingdoms. But somewhere inside of a trip to nitrous town everybody is laughing and creating together.”
Kanye and 50 went to war in 2007 with their albums Graduation and Curtis. 50 claimed he would retire if Kanye outsold him, but that wasn’t the case. He released a couple more albums, including Before I Self-Destruct in 2019 and Animal Ambition in 2014.
To this day, Kanye and 50 have never collaborated on a song. It looks unlikely to happen now, since 50 hasn’t released an album in 11 years.
During his appearance on Ebro in the Morning in 2022, 50 addressed Kanye’s antisemitic comments. “I think he’s in a dangerous area,” he said. “I forgive him for the things that he said, because I’ve already identified when something’s going on that I don’t understand.
“There’s nothing for me to say about it, though. I watch it take place and I just look and I go, ‘OK… yeah,’ that’s just him doing what he does. What Kanye would do. Even the original [Donald] Trump support thing was a little out there for me.”
He added, “Everybody looks at things, they navigate things differently. One week it’s ‘I don’t want my kids raised by a white woman,’ and the next week it’s ‘I wanna go home.’ So you don’t know exactly what he means … Crazy’s unpredictable, unpredictability’s entertaining.”
