Keith Urban is a super famous country singer from Australia who has won big music awards called Grammys. You might know his songs like “Blue Ain’t Your Color” or “Somebody Like You.” He’s had a cool journey with the Grand Ole Opry, a special place where country stars perform.
A long time ago, before he was a big star, Keith got to play at the Opry with his band, The Ranch. They were helping another Australian country legend named Slim Dusty. Back then, Keith dreamed of standing in the spotlight at the Opry all by himself one day.
That dream came true on April 21, 2012! It was more than ten years after he started singing on his own in 2000. A famous singer named Vince Gill invited him to join the Opry during a concert in Nashville that helped raise money for good causes. After the show, Keith got a surprise—a duffel bag with a microphone stand inside, which meant he was in! On April 21, 2012, another country star, Trace Adkins, welcomed him officially.
Keith also did something really special at the Opry 100 event, which celebrated 100 years of the Opry. He honored Crystal Gayle, a great country singer who’s the younger sister of Loretta Lynn. Keith told the crowd, “Crystal first sang here when she was just 16. Her big sister, Loretta, made her an Opry member on this stage. She’s always done things her own way. She was the first woman in country music to sell a million copies of an album!”
Then Keith sang her super popular song, “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.” Crystal was there in the audience, watching him sing it live. After that, Keith kept the party going by singing his own fun song, “Wasted Time,” from 2016. You can see a little video of it if you want!
