Lil Nas X is recovering after a frightening medical scare that left him unable to move half of his face. 😔 In a video shared from his hospital bed, the Old Town Road hitmaker could be seen trying to smile through the paralysis, but heartbreakingly admitted: “I can’t even laugh right, bro!” While he’s now back home and slowly improving, fans were left shocked and concerned by the sudden health crisis.
But that’s not the only pain he’s dealing with.
Despite changing the game in 2019 by blending country and hip hop like never before, Lil Nas X is still haunted by the cold shoulder he received from the country music industry. His breakout track, Old Town Road, was removed from Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart for supposedly not being “country enough” — even though he released it as a country song from the jump.
Now, in the wake of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter success — which made her the first Black woman to top the Billboard Country Albums chart — Lil Nas X opened up about how it feels to be left out of the history he helped pave the way for.
“I wish this would have happened for me,” he admitted. “I wasn’t even able to experience this.”
Columbia Records allegedly didn’t even submit Old Town Road for country streaming playlists — worried that Nas X wouldn’t be accepted by hip hop if he gained country success. That decision, combined with Billboard’s dismissal, robbed him of the credit many feel he deserved.
