Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts Shine Bright: From Soulful Acoustics to Epic Guitar Battles

Neil Young and his new band, The Chrome Hearts, put on an amazing show as the main act at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. They had just played at Farm Aid, and now they were ready to wow the crowd with 14 songs. Some songs, like “Comes a Time” and “Journey Through the Past,” were calm and gentle, while others, like “Powderfinger” and “Big Time,” were loud and full of energy with long, exciting jams.

The best part of the night was a 13-minute version of “Down by the River.” Neil Young and Micah Nelson played their guitars like they were having a fun battle, and everyone loved it. The band also had Spooner Oldham on the organ, Anthony LoGerfo on drums, and Corey McCormick on bass. They worked together perfectly, following Neil’s lead no matter what he did.

A lot of the songs came from Neil’s album “Harvest Moon,” which he made in the 1990s. Micah Nelson played a special kind of guitar called a pedal steel, filling in for a former band member, Ben Keith, who is no longer with us. When Neil played his famous guitar, Old Black, Micah joined in with so much spirit that it reminded people of Neil’s old bandmates from Crazy Horse, Danny Whitten and Poncho Sampedro.

The Chrome Hearts started as a band for just a few special shows, but after this night, it seems like they could be Neil’s main band from now on. His older band, Crazy Horse, might not play together much anymore. This show proved that The Chrome Hearts are ready to keep Neil Young’s music alive and exciting for everyone.
