Andrew Watt is a music maker who works with lots of famous singers and bands. One of his coolest teammates is Paul McCartney, a super famous guy from The Beatles. On August 20, something exciting happened at a small place called the Stephen Talkhouse in the Hamptons. It only fits 250 people, and Paul surprised everyone by showing up to play with Andrew and Chad Smith, the drummer from Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Nobody knew Paul was coming, which made it extra fun. He jumped on stage and started singing two awesome songs: “I Saw Her Standing There” by The Beatles and “Rockin’ in the Free World” by Neil Young. The crowd went wild! Andrew played guitar, Chad played drums, and they had other friends like G.E. Smith from Saturday Night Live and some horn players too. Andrew’s girlfriend, Charlotte Lawrence, even sang along for one of the songs.
Before this surprise show, Paul and Andrew worked together on a Rolling Stones album called Hackney Diamonds. Paul played bass guitar for a song called “Bite My Head Off.” Andrew told The New York Times that he and Paul also wrote a secret song together, and it all started with a cup of tea! Paul said Andrew is really smart and ready for anything. One day, Paul wanted to show Andrew a guitar idea but didn’t have his guitar. Andrew said, “I’ve got one!” Paul said, “But I play with my left hand,” and Andrew replied, “I’ve got a left-handed guitar!” Soon, they turned their tea time into a brand-new song. Paul laughed and said, “From a cup of tea to a song—doesn’t that sound easy?”
Andrew has been busy making music with all kinds of stars. He helped Iggy Pop with his album Every Loser, and he’s worked with Pearl Jam, Lana Del Rey, Post Malone, The Kid LAROI, and even Jungkook from BTS. He’s great at teaming up with different people, which shows how talented and important he is in the music world.
