Snoop Dogg is taking Death Row Records in a powerful new direction — and it’s straight from the soul. The West Coast icon has just announced “Altar Call,” a gospel album dedicated to his late mother, set to release April 27 with the lead single dropping this Friday, April 18.

“This album is a reflection of what [my mother] taught me — to use my voice and my platform to spread love and heal the world,” Snoop told Okayplayer, calling the project “another chapter out of the Bible of Love.” His mother, Beverly Tate, who passed in 2021, is also featured prominently on the album cover.

The 21-track album blends gospel, hip hop, and R&B, and brings together a soulful roster of artists including Jamie Foxx, Robert Glasper, Denaun Porter, Jazze Pha, October London, and more.

Track highlights include:

  • “Mother I Miss You” (feat. John P. Kee)

  • “Grandma’s Hands” (feat. Jamie Foxx)

  • “Won’t He Do It” (feat. Jazze Pha)

  • “A Still Mind” (feat. Denaun Porter & Robert Glasper)

  • “Make Time” (feat. Flintstone)

“Altar Call” marks Snoop’s second full gospel project after 2018’s Bible of Love, which received mixed reactions but strong praise from fans who saw his spiritual side. “This is not a money-driven project, it’s a spirit-driven project,” he explained at the time.

While many fans are praising this heartfelt pivot, Suge Knight isn’t feeling it. The Death Row co-founder took shots at Snoop’s leadership of the label, questioning the legitimacy of his ownership and criticizing his creative direction: “You going backwards. You disappointing the world by making everything flops,” Suge said in an interview with The Art of Dialogue.

Regardless, Snoop is staying locked in on a mission to use his legacy — and the Death Row brand — to uplift and inspire through faith, love, and powerful music.
