Eminem has officially kicked off his new album era with the release of “Houdini,” the first single from his upcoming 12th solo studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce).
The track, produced by Eminem and longtime collaborator Luis Resto, features a nostalgic twist — it samples and interpolates the 1982 classic “Abracadabra” by Steve Miller Band.
The release didn’t just excite fans — it also moved Steve Miller himself, the iconic frontman and founding member of the Steve Miller Band, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a heartfelt message to Eminem.
Steve Miller’s Emotional Message to Eminem
In his touching letter, Steve Miller praised Eminem’s artistry, calling him a “timeless originator” who continues to build upon the musical legacies of generations past.
“Hey EM, there’s a long chain of stories, poetry, lyrics, and musical roots that have crossed cultures and generations… and in all those lines of thought, music, and rhythm, there are special artists who create something new from their own feelings and experiences. You are one of those timeless originators.”
Miller went on to mention legendary artists who inspired his own career, such as Les Paul, T-Bone Walker, Howlin’ Wolf, Chuck Berry, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and many more.
“I’ve always tried to honor those who influenced me. I didn’t know it would be this way when I started — I just knew I had to respect the art that came before me and fight for it too.”
He closed his tribute by expressing deep appreciation to Eminem:
“There aren’t many artists who credit and respect their influencers. Marshall Mathers, you are an exception. To be included in your creative process feels good. I’m honored. Thank you.”
