Keefe D Seeks to Delay Trial for Tupac’s Murder

Duane ‘Keefe D’ Davis, the man accused of killing Tupac Shakur in 1996, is trying to delay his March murder trial. His lawyers filed a motion on February 14th, claiming they need more time to interview witnesses.

New Evidence & Defense Claims

Davis’ lawyers say a private investigator has testimony that could prove he wasn’t in Las Vegas when Tupac was shot on September 13, 1996. This is despite Davis admitting involvement in his 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend.

His lawyer, Carl Arnold, stated:

“This case involves decades-old allegations, and new evidence shows that key facts have not been fully examined.”

A court hearing on February 18th will decide whether the trial will be postponed. The defense claims there may be evidence pointing to another suspect, which needs to be investigated before the trial.

Charges & Arrest

Davis, 61, was arrested in September 2023 and charged with first-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty and has been held without bail.

Authorities believe Davis planned Tupac’s murder and provided the gun used in the Las Vegas Strip shooting, which also injured Suge Knight. The attack was allegedly in retaliation for Tupac’s fight with Orlando Anderson at a casino after a Mike Tyson fight on September 6, 1996.

In January, a judge ruled that Davis does not have immunity from prosecution. His lawyers argue the case has been delayed for too long, leading to:

  • Fading memories
  • Loss of key witnesses
  • Destroyed or missing evidence

They claim that police have had information about the case since 2009, and the delay has compromised his right to a fair trial.

Now, the court must decide whether to proceed in March or give Davis’ defense more time to prepare.
