With Tears in His Eyes, Bruce Springsteen Honors His Beloved Mother, Adele, in a Heartfelt Tribute That’s Touching Millions

On Thursday, Bruce Springsteen shared some sad news on Instagram: his mom, Adele, passed away. He told everyone that she died on Wednesday and that she was 98 years old. He posted her birthday and the day she left to let his fans know.

Along with the news, Bruce shared a sweet video of his mom dancing. He also added some words from his song “The Wish,” which he wrote about her in 1998. One part says, “I’m older but you’ll know me in a glance. We’ll find us a little rock ‘n roll bar and we’ll go out and dance.” It’s a happy memory of them together.

Bruce sang “The Wish” during his 2017 Broadway show called “Springsteen on Broadway.” In that show, he told stories about his life from his book “Born to Run” and played some of his best songs with just his guitar. When the show came back in 2021, he told the crowd that his mom, who was 95 then, had been sick with Alzheimer’s disease for 10 years. That illness made things hard for them, he said.

Even though Alzheimer’s took a lot from her, Bruce said his mom still loved to dance. He told everyone, “The need to dance hasn’t left her.” That’s why the dancing video he posted was so perfect. He always loved how much his mom enjoyed dancing. He said it was a big part of who she was—something deeper than words and stronger than memory. It showed her spirit in the best way.
