At 78, most artists are reflecting on their legacy. But Cher? She’s planning her next chapter. The pop icon who’s reinvented herself across six decades says retirement isn’t even a thought.
“I’m just getting started,” she said with a laugh. “People keep asking me when I’ll stop, and I tell them — when it’s not fun anymore. Right now, I’m having more fun than ever.”
A Legacy That Keeps Evolving
From her 1965 breakout hit I Got You Babe to the groundbreaking Believe in 1998 and her 2023 holiday release Christmas, Cher has remained a master of reinvention. Her ability to evolve with the times while staying unmistakably herself has made her one of the most enduring figures in entertainment.
“I don’t see the point in stopping,” she said. “Music has always been how I express myself. I still have things to say — and I still have a voice that wants to say them.”
Three Albums, Three Sounds
Cher revealed that she’s working on three very different albums, each with its own energy and soul.
“One will be very dance-driven — electronic, high-energy, something that feels alive,” she said. “Another will dive into the classic soul sound I grew up loving. And the third… that one will be deeply personal — probably the most personal thing I’ve ever done.”
Together, she says, they’ll form a kind of musical autobiography. “These next records will be the story of my life — told through every version of me.”
Freedom, Fun, and Reinvention
Cher says she’s enjoying the process more than ever. “At this stage, I don’t have to chase trends or prove anything,” she said. “I can just make music because I love it. And that’s a beautiful place to be.”
Despite her many so-called farewell tours, Cher laughed off the idea of ever truly quitting. “Retire from what? I’ve been saying goodbye for 40 years!” she joked. “Every time I finish a tour, I’m back onstage six months later. Performing is in my DNA.”
Cher, Then and Now
Even as she nears eight decades of life, Cher remains unstoppable. “People think that at 78 you’re winding down,” she said. “But honestly? I feel like I’m in my prime. My voice is strong, my body feels good, and my heart’s still in it.”
She’s also collaborating with both longtime producers and new-generation talents to blend her signature sound with fresh energy. “I want these albums to feel timeless — something my old fans will love and new fans will discover.”
The Beat Goes On
For Cher, music isn’t just what she does — it’s who she is. “As long as I can walk into a studio and sing, I’ll keep going,” she said. “Because once the music stops, that’s when I’ll really start getting old. And I’m not there yet.”
Six decades in, her message remains as fierce and fearless as ever: she’s not done — not even close.
“I’ve lived so many lives through music,” she said. “And if I’m lucky, I’ve got a few more left to live.”
