Ed Sheeran Reveals How He First Met Eminem & Bonded Before Making Music Together

Eminem-Ed Sheeran

In a new interview with Apple Music, Ed Sheeran opened up about the first time he met and worked with Eminem — and it didn’t start with music.

Sheeran recalled their first meeting in Detroit, where he was in town for a show and got invited to Eminem’s private studio.

“It was in Detroit and I was playing a gig. I arrived at his studio — he has loads of game consoles. He loves games,” Ed said. “I actually bought him a Nintendo 64 with GoldenEye on it as a gift.”

But surprisingly, the two didn’t jump into recording right away.

“The first time we met, we didn’t make music,” Sheeran continued. “I hung out there for about four hours and we just spoke Marvel and Avengers the entire time.”

It wasn’t until a second visit that they finally collaborated on a track.

“The first tune we made, I was in Mexico and his producer flew out there. I recorded the hook and sent it back.”

A History of Collaborations

Ed Sheeran and Eminem have since worked on three tracks together:

  • “River” – from Eminem’s Revival album

  • “Those Kinda Nights” – from Eminem’s Music To Be Murdered By

  • “Remember The Name” – from Ed Sheeran’s No.6 Collaborations Project, also featuring 50 Cent

Their chemistry, both musically and personally, has made them fan-favorite collaborators — even if it all started with a deep dive into superhero talk.
